How The Ledger Was Born by Charisse Tacang

When I was younger, I did not have to manage my finances.

Since I studied away from home for college, my parents gave me a weekly allowance. All I had to do was make sure I didn’t starve by the end of the week. But aside from having to manage my food budget, I did not have to worry about anything else—my parents paid for my tuition, my living expenses, and pretty much everything else.

That changed when I graduated from college, moved out of the house, and started working. Living on my own meant that I had to start paying my own way.
